iTab

In case you missed it, we recently purchased an iPad, which we have re-christened iTab.  Kathy shared this video with me and I thought it was definitely worth sharing:

New Shoes!

IMG_0430

I got new running shoes! Shiny...

They fit the Nike+ sensor that I had been tucking into my shoelaces. Now I have a spot for them right in the sole under the foam insole. Like this:

Marshmallows!

We have had fires the last couple of nights. One: Because they're awesome. Two: The nights have been a little cooler and our heat is off. Three: You can toast marshmallows!

Laptops and bread

I made some bread yesterday and took this photo while it was "singing." You can see a little bit of steam rising from the bread. Well, I could in the original photo; it kind of gets lost in the JPEG compression. Right after I take it out of the oven, the crust starts cooling and shrinking. The warm bread inside is creating steam, which escapes through the small cracks. You can actually hear it cracking, which is where the singing comes from. I found out that this is actually part of the baking process so you shouldn't cut open artisan bread immediately after taking it out of the oven.

While the bread was baking, I was working on computers downstairs--go figure. This set up was unique enough that I decided to share it. The laptop keyboard isn't working quite right so I took it off and started using an external USB keyboard. A replacement keyboard is on its way.

Our backyard

Here's our wonderful backyard. Earlier, it actually looked like it was snowing with the white petals falling off the cherry tree. You can see the accumulation on the ground.

I usually leave the couple patches of purple flowers until they're done flowering and then cut them off.

The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Music

We were back in Ohio this past weekend.  I needed to get a longer run in and decided I would go ahead and do it in the hills of Holmes County.

Hills provide a completely different challenge than the flat runs I am used to.  I managed quite nicely and very much enjoyed the success.

I figured some of you might want to see the graph from my run.  I use Nike Plus to track my distance, pace, and time.  Their website has some nice features, but I use a different website for the graphs.  SlowGeek.com offers a much better presentation of the data.

It’s kind of a reverse topography map:  The higher points are when I was going faster downhill and the troughs are when I was slogging up hills.  The red and green numbers are my mile splits.  Red means the split was below average and green means it was above.  The last mile and a half was pretty flat and I was excited to finish so it is not surprising to see green at the end.

I survived the run and we had a lovely weekend.  It was great to see everyone!
