Photo a day

For those of you keeping track at home, I haven’t been doing a great job at my photo a day project.  March was pretty busy, and I really needed some extra free time.  It was one thing I could easily cut out without too much problem.  I am planning on getting back into doing it every day again.  I uploaded the ones I had taken in March.  You can find them here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/glickmiller/sets/72157622889094817/

My weekend in Chicago

This past weekend I went to Chicago for an Ultimate tournament.  Goshen College has an Ultimate team and I am helping them out.  We ran into some beautiful weather this past weekend.  It looked like this in the morning:

Yeah.  Kind of cold.  I’ve never seen so many people playing in gloves:

After a few hours of the torrential snow, the weather started to clear a little.

The snow started to melt, but the wind kept blowing.  Less snow actually made matters worse.  The ground started to thaw:

You can see the mud and the dirty disc.  Conditions continued to worsen and all the fields started to look like this:

The other interesting part was the parking lot.  There were around 120 teams that showed up to play in this wonderful weather.  A polo field is really the only thing big enough for the amount of field space needed.  Parking happens in the paddock next to the fields.  If people were able to chew up the thawed ground as much as you can see in these photos, imagine what a bunch of cars can do.  It was a muddy mess.

Day 2 of this tournament was actually cancelled even though the weather was slightly better.  It was still cold and windy without precipitation.  However the mud, especially in the parking paddock made it impossible.

Did I mention wind?  20 mph or so.  We had one game where every point was scored in the downwind end zone

Thanks to David Hwang for the photos.  Click on any image to get to his flickr page and see the rest of the photos from the weekend.  I took my camera, but was too frozen to take it out.

I finished out the weekend with the Shamrock Shuffle in downtown Chicago.  It is an 8k (5 miles) race with 36000 entrants.  I finished with a decent time for 43:03.

Baking Experiment

This past weekend I got out one of my chocolate cookbooks (cookbooks about chocolate, not made of it) since it had been a while since I'd made anything out of either of them.  I ended up making chocolate souffles, which were actually quite easy to make.

I decided to make four small ones instead of one big one.  Craig and Kristi agreed that they were pretty tasty.

Goshen water

Be careful what you drink when you visit us; there is clearly something in the Goshen water. Tonight we found out about a 7th pregnancy in our church--a congregation of about 150.

Also, we go in for an ultrasound tomorrow!! We're excited and might have pictures of our baby to share soon!
